I have a problem- well, in reality I have quite a few- but the problem I'm talking about in this instance is lingerie. I love it.

A Second Time - Steampunk Jewelry and Sculpture

Every once in a while, I feel like I'm hit with a burst of fresh air in my face when I see certain designs. Maybe it's the components used, the genius of it, or just it's sheer beauty.

Paper is something everyone uses on a daily basis. Sometimes, we use scraps to write a grocery list or jot down a phone number quickly. And, believe it or not, some of us still use paper to actually communicate a meaningful message with paper note cards, pads, and greetings.

This is what I received in the mail from Linda and Harriet. I loved getting the package, opening it, and seeing bright colors and unusual images.

To me, writing something and actually sending it through the mail, is something very special. I don't think there is a replacement for this. Receiving an unexpected letter or card out of the blue is something that should not die. There are a lot of places to buy stationery and things of that nature, but Linda and Harriett stands out because of their quality, simplicity, and their personality that shines through in each and every product they offer.

In the age of email (which I really hate writing, for the most part), sending something real that one can touch and feel, something they can see that makes them smile or giggle, is a truly unmatched gesture. Emails are boring, ugly, and don't come across how intended in some instances.

Reviyve - Natural Skin Care

Sensitive skin leaves me constantly searching for products that work and that are gentle at the same time. In come Reviyve, a natural skin care company that creates a wide variety of products using essential oils, sea salts, and organic ingredients that truly pamper your skin.

In the mail I received samples of the Sweet Orange Balm/Salve, Dead Sea Eye Serum, and the Brown Sugar Scrub & Mask combo- I tried them all.

My skin gets SO dry in the winter, that I ripped open the brown sugar scrub and mask combo immediately- upon opening it, I saw little tiny granules that would exfoliate my skin and a rich color that I knew was from the brown sugar. I used it as directed, gently applying it to my skin in a circular motion and leaving it on for at least 15 minutes. I could feel it tightening up after a minute or two, like masks do. When I rinsed it off, my skin felt a.m.a.z.i.n.g.! It was so soft and it seemed to brighten my skin, as well, there was absolutely no dullness left- it was like it wasn't winter at all. LOVED IT! And, you don't have to use an excessive amount, so out of that tiny sample, I got 3 uses- not bad at all. My skin looks great. Dryness free!

Brown Sugar Facial Scrub and Mask $16.50, 4 ounces.

Really, these Reviyve products couldn't have arrived at a better time. By the time February rolls around, my skin is screaming for moisture, especially my hands and elbows. I have to moisturize about a million times a day to feel like I'm not my own personal desert.

I was excited to try the sweet orange balm that is particularly great for elbows, knees, and heels- it is a beautifully thick salve that immediately provides relief from dry skin and absorbs quickly- and again, a little goes a long way. My elbows looked like a million bucks after I used it, and I have used it daily since I received it and it is still just a wonderful- and the scent is insanely delicious, nice and fresh and not too strong.

Reviyve Balm/Salve $17.95 for 8 ounces. Trust me, this will go a long way!

Finally, the under eye serum- designed to fight that nasty puffiness we can get and dark circles from lack of sleep, stress, and all of that other stuff that takes a toll on our well being. I loved it. I wish I had more, because I really need it!
It is really light, smells amazing, and it is really gentle and didn't irritate my under eye at all.
I felt it working immediately, and imagine using it daily would keep your eyes in great shape. Right away, my eyes felt revived (believe it or not!) and firmer. I highly, highly recommend trying it, especially if you are sensitive to skin care products.

Amy Hunting Furniture

Furniture is essential for every dwelling, big or small, modern or classic.

Modern furniture happens to be my genre of choice. It does not have to be stark like we sometimes see- I define modern furniture as pieces that function, with clean lines, little upkeep and in these times, very little waste.

Amy Hunting Patchwork Series.

The work of Amy Hunting goes along these lines, if you will, but also incorporates little waste. Her "Patchwork Series" embodies this- created with wood from a Denmark manufacturing company that would otherwise be discarded, Amy used these scraps and built a collection.

Patchwork Chair.

First all of the wood was formed into a patchwork design, then something amazing happened and it consisted of a chair, a book box, and 12 lamps that are graduated in size. All of which are one of a kind and beautiful.

To me, this is a true example of green furniture, there is absolutely no waste- made entirely out of wood with now bolts, screws, or anything else. Amazing.

Anyone that knows me, knows I wear my Hunter Wellingtons pretty much every day in the winter. They look chic and serve a much needed purpose during the New England winters and Spring showers.
Mine are black. Maybe boring to some people, but I love them.

Gorgeous right? LOVE them. When I decide to get another pair of rain boots, the Oooh La Lace wellies will be my first choice. Just $60.

If you're looking for really fun and functional rain boots, Plueys always comes highly recommended by me- they are colorful, playful, and beautifully made. There are a few new guys in the collection and I adore them.

Argyle is great. It can be preppy, but it can also be that nerdy-cool that I sometimes like to go for. The colors in the Argyle Crush rain boots are subdued but not at all boring. If you're itching to wear that fave argyle sweater of yours in the springtime when it's too warm, these will give you your fix, for sure!

Just because it's a rainy day doesn't mean it has to be a gray and dreary day. The Tokyo Rain wellies are colorful and fun without forgetting their roots. Go ahead, jump in puddles like you used to! It's FUN!

Plueys are made with natural rubber, they are lined with cotton, and have a nice treaded sole, so you'll only slip and slide if you want to.

Bath & Body Review: Ciao Bella

I didn't really know where to begin with the products I received in the mail from Ciao Bella because they were both so fabulous.

So, I decided the easiest route was to review what I tried out first, first.

The day I received the package from Ciao Bella, I opened it immediately. My body was in dire need of some exfoliation, I needed to take a shower, and this was the perfect time for me to try out their beautiful Yuzu Grapefruit Sugar Scrub.

Looks good enough to eat doesn't it? But, I don't recommend it, of course!

I grabbed the jar, opened it, and was hit with an amazing burst of citrus that had a beautiful softness to it. Not overpowering, not underwhelming, but just right. Invigorating and relaxing!

I found the scrub absolutely delightful. The sugar was coarse enough to do its job, but gentle enough to leave my sensitive skin happy.

On their website, they state, "Our scrub is rich in olive oil, shea, soy and Vitamin E, it removes dead skin cells while the oils penetrate and moisturize the skin for a beautiful glow." They are right on. My skin was soft, smooth, and perfectly moisturized. It didn't feel greasy at all. My skin reminded me of velvet and that was a thrilling reaction.

The after-scent is not quite a strong, but this is not at all a bad thing... the softness I was talking about earlier is stronger and you smell completely fresh.
I absolutely LOVE this scrub!

Can you handle more? I have one more thing to review and I am just as excited about it! What is it, you ask?

I don't even know what Lychee is, but I like it. I can smell the citrusiness of the Apricot, but there is an underlying earthy freshness that I'm assuming comes from the Lychee or the combination of the two. LOVE IT!

A lot of creams leave you feeling overly moisturized and take f.o.r.e.v.e.r. to absorb. This one does not. This one is a dream come true. When I put this stuff on I forget because it absorbs THAT quickly. But, when I touch my skin, I'm quickly reminded that I used the Lychee-Apricot cream from that amazing ciaobellabody.com.

My skin is as soft as a babies bum, and let me tell you, I have the worst dry skin ever when it comes to the winter/spring. My body just has this horrible time adjusting, but this stuff WORKS. And, it works for hours. You can't do better than that, my friends.

Filled with an eclectic array of home accessories and gift items, but like they told me, "that just sounds so generic and doesn't adequately describe our merchandise."

Product Review: 5th Avenue Bath Co.

A few weeks ago, I received an unusually large package filled with a ton of bath and body goodies created by 5th Avenue Bath Co. This review has taken me a little longer to get up than usual because I had so many new things to try! And, of course, you need to try things one at a time to get a true sense of how much you like something and how it works for you.

I received a package with SEVEN samples. Seven different fantastic goodies to try!

So, please accept my apologies for taking longer than usual to 5th Avenue and my readers. I think you'll find it worth it. In the future, if something is as generous with their samples as 5th Ave., I'll break it up into a few different features.

Hand & Body Cream, $19.95.

I first tried the Luxurious Body Cream.
Fresh!Spring!Day! That is what this reminds me of. The scent is SO refreshing and airy and crisp. The cream itsself does an awesome job of moisturizing your skin. LOVE IT! This absorbs nice and fast, as well. INDEPENDENTluxe really appreciates fast absorbing moisturizers. I usually don't have time to wait around to get dressed, so this is ideal.

Then, I tried the Luxurious Body Moisturizer in Blackberry Pear. This is a very fruity, sweet scent that is striking. Not for those of us who like to be subtle. :) This is also a beautiful moisturizer. It works. It feels great and absorbs with the quickness. The consistency is smooth and light. I highly recommend trying it.

When I tried the next product. I fell in love with it. I have never tried a moisturizer that was this thick and creamy in my life. It feels amazing and makes your skin look absolutely phenomenal.

Foot & Leg Moisturizer with Shea Butter, $12.95

I received a sample in the Bergamot scent. It's citrus-y and fresh. Light and delicous.

Look at how thick that stuff is! AMAZING! Love, love, love it. I'd like about a gallon of this, so I could use it every day for the rest of the year!

Feet need special treatment. They are working all the time! After a rough day on your feet, it's nice to pamper yourself.

Rough Foot Soap with Goat's Milk, $5.99

The exfoliating foot soap from the 5th Ave. Bath Co. is awesome! The lather is really nice and the exfoliating scrubbies work wonders at softening your feet. You kind of feel like you got a pedicure after you use this soap. That is how awesome it is!

Speaking of exfoliators... I also got to try the Tootsie Tune Up scrub, and the Jojoba Exfoliating scrub. Both are really lovely.

Tootsie Tune Up Scrub, $15.95

Since I was just talking about feet, I'll continue with that... the Tootsie Tune Up scrub is nice and rough and filled with great moisturizing oils. If you have feet that are beat up from walking around barefoot or from walking in uncomfortable sandals during the summer, you need to get this. The scrub will kick your callouses ass. That's right! It means business and I love it.

The Jojoba Exfoliating Scrub is brand new at 5th Ave. Bath Co. So new, it's not even on the site, yet. How cool is that? This scrub is subtle, and makes your skin super happy. If you're in the mood for a light exfoliator that keeps that skin from looking like the desert, you should give this a try. I got to try it in the Pomegranate Martini scent, and it is totally delectable. Girly, but not overpowering.

Luxurious Lip Balm, $2.99

We all need a good lip balm. The luxurious lip balm line at 5th Ave. provides moisture that lasts and feels smooth & creamy on your lips. I got the Coconut Lemon Grass and it smells amazing. I love how you can smell it, but not taste it. You know, because flavored lip balms usually taste fake. This lip balm is simply excellent.

So, as I'm sure you gathered. I'm a big fan of the products at 5th Ave Bath Co. and think you'd benefit by giving them a try.

Something happened yesterday. I found graphic tees that made me want to wear graphic tees again.

Each shirt is hand-printed and hand-dyed. Each will make you stand out in crowd for having impeccable taste and kick ass style.

The brand is MoonblooD. The owners are an adorable couple that go by the names Leo and Amy. Amy has a background in textiles and loves fashion. Leo background is in computer science. An odd pairing, perhaps, but a perfect one. Just look at how sick these shirts are!

The Feather Flight tee comes in a couple of colors, as do a few of their
other designs. This one in particular really stands out to me. The print really pops from this scarlet background. The Native American inspired drawing gives it a tribal appeal without making you feel like you're wearing something that you don't know about. You know what I mean? I see people in distressed Pink Floyd tees because they look cool, yet these people know nothing about Floyd (don't even get me started on that). They have just the
right amount of artistry that shows where the inspiration comes from without any fakeness.

I love that they have tees for boys that don't look like every other tee you see. They have this artistic kick that makes them really different. They also aren't cluttered and overbearing like a lot of what's out there right now, either.

Product Review: Charlyn Koo

I opened a package. Inside, I found a parchment paper envelope tied in brown satin ribbon. After removing the ribbon and opening this envelope, my breath was taken away by what was inside. Beautifully designed cards that are suitable for almost any occassion.

I actually don't know where to begin with this review. When I said my breath was taken away, this was not an exaggeration: I gasped when I saw the beauty of these cards. They are rich and well made. They stand out. The designs are completely unique and completely gorgeous, even frameworthy.

The first collection of cards I saw was from the Glitzy & Golden collection. Each card is rich in color with gold foil designs that are feminine, yet strong.

Inside isn't just blank paper, it's another sheet of paper with little flecks of color- this makes me think this paper is recycled, though it doesn't look or feel that way. It's perfectly smooth and very easy to write on.

Product Review: Luv 4 Country

With a name like
Luv 4 Country, you probably think homemade, craft fair goods of some kind. While the name may imply this, there is nothing homemade about the
awesome body products created by this small brand. Everything I tried was amazing.

The first product I tried was the London Lemon Curd Lotion. It smells delicious -literally- I opened it up and put it on my skin and was reminded of elementary school birthday parties with yellow cupcakes and vanilla frosting. If you are a fan of those and that scent, you will adore this lotion. Not only does it smell edible (don't even think about it, folks), but it feels fantastic- it's silky smooth and fast absorbing. It makes your skin feel GREAT.

The next thing I tried was the
shaving cream. Whoa, girls! I don't want to go the TMI route, but I have to be honest and let you know that I get razor bumps in the most inconvenient places pretty much every time I shave, but I didn't get ONE -not ONE- razor bump when I used this
shaving cream, and I used it several times.
It is amazing, people. And, a little goes a long way!

I have to tell you that it takes a little getting used to, as it's not like your commercial
shaving cream. But, it is totally worth the adjustment. This stuff is smooth and it
lathers up beautifully.

The last product from Luv 4 Country that I used is the healing salve. It works super well- being a jewelry designer, I often get little nicks and cuts that make wire wrapping and other things a little difficult. Having something like this healing salve makes those heal up super quickly. It works and it doesn't sting or anything. Love it!

First impressions are everything, right? Well, I agree and disagree, I mean someone may be having a really bad day when you first meet them, which is certainly going to effect them in some way that isn't the norm. Anyway, I liked this first impression. The photo of this raspberry lemonade body butter doesn't really do it justice. You know how great it looks here? Well, it looks even more amazing in person and feels 100 times better when you get it on your moisture deprived skin. This is the stuff that you've been looking for and there are a million (um, something like that) more scents available- I'm sure they'll be just as delicious!

I am kind of a lip gloss and lip balm freak. I just love it- I mean, what's not to love? It can add moisture, shine, color, or flavor, or all of the above at once. Some days, though, I just want a simple lip balm that tastes good and simply moistures without any riff-raff.

I love hearing from you, I do. But, to the right ---> I specifically ask you not to send me attachments unless you ask or if I request you email me something. From now on, if an email has attachments without prior notice or whatever, I'm just going to delete. I may decide to not showcase your work ever because of this.

Also, as a designer myself, I always wondered how you were supposed to approach a website or blog that you'd like to be mentioned on. I always thought being polite was the way to go.
Sending an email that says, "check out xxxx.com" without a please or thank you is NOT the way to go. It's rude. Deleted, you are. How about saying something like...
"Hey Kelly, I design xxx, this is my site: xxxx, and I would like you to check it out. Thank you (key phrase, here), xxx."

I've actually received emails with just a URL- well, guess what? You're not that special. I get TONS of emails daily, I need to know some details before I take time to actually check out one's website. Give them to me or I'm just going to delete emails like that from now on.

OH!!!!!!! One more thing, do NOT add me to your mailing list without asking me or without me signing up. This a bad sign to me and makes me wonder if you do this to your customers without permission- SPAM is bad, folks- super unprofessional.

Beautiful Bracelets: Fuss Jewelry

When Wendy at Fuss Jewelry emailed me a week or two ago, I checked out her work immediately. What struck me right away was her bracelets- they are bold, unique, and gorgeous.

Product Review: Scuba Bath Shop

Ok, so I think the products that Christy of Scuba Bath Shop sent in are my new favorites. I don't have one complaint or one nitpick or anything. ^.^

I received a basic cardboard box in the mail and was excited, of course. I love trying new things and reviewing them for my readers.
I opened the package up and was hit with beautiful fragrance with notes of flowers and coconut and citrus. WOW. It was amazing and I couldn't wait ot dig through the rafia that covered up the products to see what was inside.

Scuba Bath Shop Goodies

Inside there was body scrub, lotion, lip balm, and this cool scrubby pouch filled with sweet smelling coconut goodness.

Scuba Bath Shop Keywest Lime Lip Balm, $6

The first thing I tried was the Key West Lime lip balm. I don't think I've ever used a lip balm that went on so smoothly. It smells so refreshing and feels awesome on your lips. My favorite thing about this lip balm is that you don't have to reapply six thousand times a day to see and feel benefits- once this awesome stuff absorbs, your lips just feel silky smooth and totally moisturized with out any residue or sign that you had to use something to make you lips look & feel so fabulous. How cool is that?

Scuba Bath Shop White Palm Cocoa Cream, $10

My hands get wicked dry in the winter. The cold, dry air and my skin do not mix well- I need a moisturizer that does what it's supposed to do and I found it. The
white palm cocoa cream at Scuba Bath shops works remarkably well- you don't have to use much at all, which is a bonus, as well. The lotion smells amazing, it is fresh and creamy, and kind of sweet. I love it. The white palm cocoa cream absorbs ultra quickly, so I don't have to stand around freezing to death in my apartment while waiting for my moisturizer to absorb. It exfoliates beautifully. It smells amazing. It feels awesome. Everything about it is, dare I say, perfect. Never have I used a body scrub that does it all well- when I opened it up I saw a beautiful, thick formula that smelled like cocoa and sugar, it was inviting to say the least. When I started to scrub, gently I might add, my body felt more smooth and soft then it has ever felt before. When I rinsed off what was left, my skin was so awesome! Cool Find: Studio Numen

Every now and then I come across jewelry that totally wows me. I am not a person that needs something to be completely over the top wearable art (that's not actually wearable), it just has to be gorgeous. The jewelry by designer Margot di Cono does just that- it wows me. Every piece is as striking as the last with it's beautiful materials and organic styling.

Studio Numen has perfected the art of wearable art. The colors and textures combined with the organic shapes & top notch jewels makes this art that is truly wearable.

Unfortunately for serious jewelry shoppers, we can't shop online for Margot's gorgeous work. However, we can admire it. And, if we're lucky we can purchase it at a few galleries with a high taste level.

Product Review: Sweet As You Please soy candles

Once again it's that time of year where it's crisp enough to cuddle up on the couch with some tea or hot cocoa next to a fireplace... or, if you live in an apartment like myself, next to some candles since the whole fireplace in an apartment is against the law here (BS, I know!).

A week or two ago I received two candles from

Sweet As You Please is a small women owned business that creates deliciously scented soy candles in a few forms. What I mean by that is, you get your votives, your candles in a glass jar, and in my case, candles in a travel tin for travelling- I like the idea of using them on a candlelit picnic (now that sounds sweet). Oh, you can also get custom candles- neat, eh?

Marjorie, the owner & creator of all things Kazam sent in her Peppermint Foot Scrubbies bar a little while ago and it is delightful.

I like art. Actually, I love art. I'm the art kid- I was the one that kept to myself in school and took on as many independent studies in art as possible. I graduated early from high school to work on my portfolio and started a business where I design and create jewelry, as well as websites and tons of other creative stuff in between.
Art is my life, really. It's a constant thing- it's always around and it's always inspiring.

So, this cute guy moved into my apartment building and come to find out: he's an artist (yes!). An oil painter, an American impressionist. His work is stunning.
The colors, his distinct style, and the way he captures light is absolutely beautiful. He deserves recognition and tons of sales now- we wouldn't want him to be a starving artist would we?

So, I found this amazing site for men. Yes, you read correctly: MEN.
However, for some reason when I try to capture images from the site, it gives me trouble. So, instead, you're going to have to settle for a link and trust that I'm sending you to a site filled with unique, wearable clothing that your guy or you will dig.
The colors and textures on each piece of clothing are truly art that you can wear and not feel embarassed by- because, let's face it, that wearable art usually isn't wearable by anyone that can see, if you know what I'm saying.

Product Review: Becky Oh! Designs

I opened a cardboard box addressed to me, inside I saw bright green tissue paper.
Carefully, I unwrap what's inside: a nice protective plastic bag with a pretty bag inside. A wristlet by the very talented Becky Oh! Designs.
Another minor detail that I really appreciated was that the bag had a plastic bubble inside to give it shape- I don't know, I thought it was a really nice touch. I was like, oh I can fit that much in it? :)

As I've emphasized in the past, I normally do not like bags made of fabric. The boring designs and poor sewing are a huge turn-off for me. They remind me of high school home ec and horrible everything was that the people made.
Luckily, every once in a great, great while, a bag comes around that reminds me just how awesome fabric bags can be.

This awesome wristlet from Becky Oh's new Apropos collection is stunning.
Not only is the combination of colors beautiful and obviously very carefully chosen, but the craftswomanship is outstanding. This is not a word I use. My standards are very high (have you seen my wire wrapping skills?), I don't settle for curvy lines and gathered thread. Or pleats in the fabric where there are surely not supposed to be. You will not find those flaws in the bags created by Becky Oh!
They are crafted with meticulous attention to detail.

Becky Oh! sets a new standard for handmade bags made from fabric- they should all be so perfect. Other designers should aspire to have their skill be 50% as good as Becky Oh!.

These unique handmade wristlets start at a mere $20, this one was $35- underpriced, if you ask me.

Oh, I should and want to mention that each handbag is a one of a kind piece. However, Becky let me know that if she has fabric left (say, like the fabric in this bag), she is willing to make another. How awesome is she? Go buy one and thank me later.

Product Review: Zevin Creations

So far, all of my stationery reviews have been for printed cards. Not a thing wrong with that, of course, but I am happy to do my first handmade card review.
Zevin Creations was kind enough to send me a few cards and they are really pretty.

I'm first going to mention the packaging- as you know, I love products that are packed nicely.

It's always nice to receive something that looks like a gift. Very pretty!

Inside of that purple tissue paper was a stack of cards. Obviously handmade (in a good way), they are vibrant and have a really nice feel to them. You know, that made with love feeling, but without the cheesiness of that saying.

The first one I saw was this birthday postcard or as Zevin Creations calls them: zevlets. Fun idea, right? I love the high contrast of the pink with the orange & yellow. The ribbon detail is really cute, too. And, how unique is the postcard idea? I've never seen that before and I'm a card shopper- I mean, I look all over the place for the right card. Anyhow, I love it and who wouldn't want to receive something so fun?
I love how you can see the detail without seeing any glue!

Oooh, ooh, ooh! This just in for Fall:

How rich and beautiful. Warm and welcoming. How fall. The earth tones mixed with the torn paper on that copper background looks stunning. I can see using these as a just because card for the season, as a Happy Thanksgiving card, or as an invite to a festive fall event. Versatile and my favorite of the bunch.

Everyone needs to (or, they should, at least) send out thank you cards. I love the mix of textures and subdued colors.
This one has a really vintage feel to it, like I could have gone into my Gram's attic and dug through boxes to find this card. Still in perfect condition, but with an undeniable nostalgic vibe that you can't get from new cards. Yet, somehow, this card- the design and construction acheive that. Really cool and different.

Another thing that really struck me about the cards by Zevin Creations is that on the back of each card is their backstory. There's something about that that really speaks to me, not only as a fellow designer, but as a customer it's always interesting to know the who, how, and why.

Beautiful Find : Juniper Designs

You may have noticed cool necklaces and other jewelry popping up here & there, at larger boutique-like chain stores that use antique (or, in their case, reproduction) keyholes and keys, and other interesting trinkets.

My oh my, does it infuriate me when emerging designers get blatantly ripped off. This isn't to say, of course, that nothing like this has been done before- who knows what some designer made 20 years ago in Madrid that someone just made here and everyone thinks is new & unique.
To me, it doesn't really matter, design is about taking something and giving it a twist that makes it you. The style of the designer should stand out, and at Juniper Designs, you know it's Juniper Designs. Designers and materials together set things apart.

Back in May designer Jenifer Altman launched a collection called Pandora's Box. Each piece in the collection is designed with authentic antique keyholes embellished with Pearls and semi-precious stones. Each design is limited and genuinely original. This designer obviously thought about this collection before it even began- she built it from the ground up.

Some of my favorite necklaces in the collection are below. I adore the ornate details of the keyholes paired with the elegant delicacy of the Pearls and stones paired with them. The effect is unique and memorable.

They are incredibly, almost ridiculously, affordable at juniper-designs.net.

I grew up with parents who live the antique life, own a store, restore antiques, and hammered all of into my head from the time I was a very, very little girl. The keyholes used in the Pandora's Box Collection are rare and irreplaceable. In my opinion, each is truly one of a kind- though they may be built from the same cast, each one has unique impressions that make them one of a kind, even if they may look similar at first glance.
Get one of these necklaces while you can, they won't come around again.

Hot shoes at T. Georgianos

I'm not really in the go into detail kind of mood right now. It's been a long day. But, mostly, I think it's because these shoes, especially the red ones, speak for themselves. Sexy, strong, and versatile, the shoes at T. Georgianos beg to worn.

The Red Python pump is one of the sexiest, edgiest, most fierce shoes I have ever seen. It says come hither and I'll kick your ass at the same time. Made by hand in Italy. $390

Boots are essential. It's going to be cold soon, rainy, and overall, dreary. Shoes help, so do fabulouus clothes. But, boots, they keep you warm and dry, and these are pretty flippin' sweet. The grey suede is versatile and they look buttery soft. These babies are handmade in Montebello, CA and cost $440.

I'm one of those people that likes the classics with a twist- in the case of this tan pump, you have a typical fall color with a not so typical cut. These will go with anything, any season, but they'll be particularly perfect for fall. On sale for $182.745 at tgeorgianos.com.

I am a fan of stationery. All of it has it's own personality. All of it says something about the person who's writing on it.

Lauren Goessling designs personalized stationery that is simple and pretty. Each sheet is about the size of a post card- well, probably the exact size of a post card. The paper is the weight of your typical card stock, so it's sturdy. I like the fact that this personalized stationery is not just on thin paper, but something that has more weight, and will last longer. We all know those notes we write are meant to be kept forever!

I was surprised when I opened the package and found a box that was obviously personalized for me with the initials of KM. How sweet is that? Getting me all buttered up. ;)
The notecards that were inside the box with brown envelopes were tied in brown polka dot ribbon: this is adorable.

That is the perfect shopping experience and the Lauren G Designs website provides that completely. I am really looking forward to see her wedding and baby lines that are coming out soon!

Product Review: Marzipan, Inc. greeting cards

I was pleasantly surprised when I opened up my package from Marzipan, Inc. owner of shadesofviolet.com. There wasn't any fancy packaging, I just saw cards & a box of stationery in a stack tied in pretty purple ribbon. On top of the stack of paper delight was a little round box filled with beautiful gift tags. I untied the ribbon and read a note from the designer herself, Lori, that was on the most gorgeous, opalescent paper I have ever seen. It shimmered like fine glitter.

In the stack were a variety of cards that would appeal to almost anyone. If you like dainty designs with a refreshing twist, I think Shades of Violet is a sure thing for you.

The box of stationery is beautiful, too. The paper isn't flimsy which is seriously important to me.

I really appreciated the fact that the stationery set came in a plastic box that can actually hold up to be opened and closed quite a few times before cracking. You think paper cuts are bad? Get a plastic box cut and find out what's worse. Not to worry, here, though because this box isn't going to fall apart and even the paper edges are smooth.

Writing on this stationery will be a treat. It's well made and beautifully designed. One of the things that really stood out to me is that you can't find a trace of glue anywhere- and usually with glitter, you can see that glue. A true sign of attention to detail and caring about presentation.
Going through just the stationery section of Shades of Violet makes me want more. All of the sets are vibrant and beautiful.

Now I'm going to talk about the greeting cards. They rock. The simplicity of the design is nice, they aren't overly look at me, look at me, but they have a unique flair that makes them really stand out among other cards I've seen and purchased, myself. You can just feel the love that goes into making these and I admire that.

Three cards really stood out to me among the samples that were sent. Below are close-ups!

This is the Jordan card. It's undeniable girly girlness (yes, I know that's not a word) is really fun and super cute. $5 at shadesofviolet.com.

Oh. This is perfect. I get so sick of those typical, boring, congratulations on your new baby/pregnancy cards. Most are too mushy. This one is fun. A Bun in the Oven, known as Josie on shadesofviolet.com is $5.

Last, but not least, we have the Virgo card, which is part of the Constellations series at Shades of Violet. It's truly a perfect for anyone card... well, anyone that's a Virgo. The design is simple and to the point, and once again I can't see any glue. These cards are worth every penny. Just five bucks.

I feel like what you send out really reflects your personality, in a sense, and if you're sending out flimsy, cheap cards and stationery that is not going to come across like you care. Shadesofviolet.com knows that the paper goods you use are just as important as the tone in your voice- know what I mean? You may mean something one way, but if you say it the wrong way, that is not going to go over well. Trust me, I know this first hand. ;)

Unique Twist

I just wanted a super cute, unique outfit that was appropriate for a slew of things and I came up with this idea. In this ensemble, I ending up using one more well known boutique, but all others are small.

Let's start with the adorable top which happens to be from Anthropologie, one of the coolest chain stores in the states, if you ask me. There's always a variety of clothing, that is modern and different or orphanage chic (or at least that's what they thing). I like most of what they carry, and this is one of the things I like. The vintage style top is modernized with an adjustable waist and a nice, tailored fit. And, navy is fabulous. The blouse is 100% silk (yes!) and $178 at anthropologie.com.

Denim is fail safe. Thinking about it, I really don't know anything like it. It is comfortable and wears well, and there are tons of cuts that will suit just about anyone. I am pretty sure I've never seen anyone look bad in jeans- well, I've seen ill fitting jeans, but that's not their fault... right? Let's just stop there before I ramble on and on and confuse everyone.

I've been under the weather, so when I'm not coughing like crazy and my vision is working properly, I'm attempting to read email and look around for cool stuff.

Lucky for me, I found this awesome site called Loft Party today. The site features up & coming modern designers, as well as more established companies that care about their employees and the enviroment. Sweet, right?

Featured are a few things that I really liked.
The pillow is by a LA based brand called Amenity. It's run by two lovely ladies that make truly beautiful things. The branch pillow is $95.

The trio of dishes are by Precidio Objects. The platters are $14 each, the dinner plate is $8 and the salad plate is $6.

I bet you looked at the gorgeous object on the right and wondered what it is. Guess what it is? It's a cutting board! By far, the most colorful and unique one I've seen in ages. It's $27 by a company called Joseph Joseph- two twin brothers from the UK who sell their work in 23 countries.

Easy Femininity

Well, the horrible heat wave is finally over with in New England, so we can actually wear clothing again. It's a good feeling. I don't like be so uncomfortable that even my lightest clothes stick to my body and make me feel like killing something.
Anyhow. That's what inspired this outfit. It's very light, maybe not light enough for 112˚, but light enough for those "normal" hot and humid summer days.
I was shopping around, as I do on a weekly basis can found a few really cool sites with cute things. The first thing I found in this outfit was the button up top by Charlotte Keating, from there, the rest was easy.

This cute, buttery yellow top is by a UK designer, Charlotte Keating. I like the fact that it's not some cheap thin muslin like a lot of button ups these days. It's a feminine silk chiffon that's going to feel lovely against your sunkissed skin. The top is just a versatile as a t-shirt, but thankfully, not nearly as boring and unflattering as that can be. What a pretty skirt, huh? It has that Anthropologie style without the Anthro price that sometimes makes me feel like gagging. I mean, I know things are usually worth it, but why bother shopping t here for a cotton skirt when you can get one at Boutique Ooh La La for half the price and have the beautiful thing made to order by the designers!? I like that a lot.

I have never really been a fan of fabric bags. While I realize many are incredibly well made, I can't really get past the fact that I made some in high school. Maybe they just aren't my style- I'm a leather kind of girl, and I like edgier designs. That's not easy to come by with bags made of fabric.
There are exceptions, of course, there always are- one of those exceptions are the bags created by Nicole Giordano. Not only are the bags handcrafted, but so are the fabrics she uses. Very unique.
This shoulder bag is another incredibly versatile piece in this outfit. The color alone would go with anything. The easy shape will work with anything. The beads on the strap make it fun. Prices at Nicole Giordano range from $55 to $62.

Jewelry is an important factor in an outfit. I think most of us feel a bit naked without it on. When it's hot out, it's not so easy to wear chunky necklaces (which is totally doable with this look), so I'm opting for a bracelet and earrings for this girly get-up.
Designer Rebecca Bourke creates many intricate pieces of jewelry, as well as simple pieces, such as these. Chrysophrase is awesome- I love the shade of green, it is different from any other green you'll ever see. Shoes! One of my favorite things ever. These flats from Elizabeth Brady are feminine, bold, and a touch funky. They would make any ensemble stand out. As if the outfit wasn't eye-catching enough already, right?
The vibrant fuchsia is a fabulous contrast to the subtle blues and greens in this look, as well as that buttery yellow top. And, we all love fuchsia with brown, don't we? It's such a rich look.

Cool Find: Gnarled Branch

Artist David Irvine creates a variety of art in different medias and styles. Each unique piece catches the eye and holds on for a minute- unlike cookie cutter sailboats and vases of flowers, this art makes you think about what it is and it inspires.

As a fan of abstract art, this painting, titled Artist Charred Memories, this truly spoke to me. Contrasting colors, jagged edges, incredible texture. The title matches the painting, it represents how we feel at times very well.
As a person just looking at art, I love how this painting jumps out from the ornate gold frame, the presentation is unexpected and beautiful.

Product Review: Klean Bath & Body

Today's review is for a product by Klean Bath & Body called Yuzu Sugar Body Polish.

First of all, let me note the adorable packaging. Packaging is important to me. It tells me a little bit about a businesses professionalism. When a package is a delight to open, when you see it and smile- this is good, this is what getting something in the mail should feel like. Like a gift. And, let me tell you, this amazing Yuzu Sugar Body Polish is just that.

A little edu: Yuzu is a Japanese citrus fruit that has a vibrant scent that's sure to awaken your senses and make you smile.

I could smell this beautiful product before I even took the lid off. That is really cool, and what's even better is that the sugar scrub is sealed in under that lid. This tells me the creator of this product cares about a few things- freshness, quality, and most importantly safety. The "sealed for protection" seal is appreciated greatly.

Now, let's get to the even better aesthetically pleasing stuff. I took that lovely seal off and saw beautiful golden sugar crystals that were complimented by actual Yuzu rind. What do I mean? I mean, you can see and smell that the fruit is actually in this polish. That is a really great thing to me, that makes this product have an awesome boutique, made from scratch feel. I appreciate that, I like knowing it was made with the real thing. That is just one of the things that makes it worth it.

So, I'm in the shower and decide it's time to test out this beautiful Yuzu Sugar Body Polish. Was it is beautiful to use as it was to look at and smell? Yes. Yes. YES! Loved it. Loved how it felt: it was exfoliating without hurting my skin like some scrubs do, the sugar is just firm enough to do the job without making you feel like your scratching your delicate skin to pieces. It was gentle and effective.
Another thing I noticed was how little you have to use in order to get that smooth skin that exfoliants and body polishes promise- I probably use less than a tablespoon each time to exfoliate my entire body. That is impressive, girls and boys. That is another thing, among all of the other things that make this product worth every penny and worth the wait of shipping- hey, that only took 2 days, I am impressed with Klean Bath and Body in every way.

Some days you are going to go out, but you're not sure where- maybe you have a couple of errands to run on a hot day and you might meet up with your man for lunch, or your girlfriends for coffee. Something easy to wear, that is also cute, is a must.

Shoes are important. Too many people do not pay attention to them. I will see a super cute outfit (like above), and then I'll see someone wearing... flip flops. I mean, come on- we all love them for the comfort and convenience, but they are not fashionable, ladies and gents. They are just easy, and that's OK with jeans and tank top or at the beach, but aside from that: don't do it. Wear beautiful shoes. Wear sandals like the ones by Kenzo in the above outfit. Some would say with a neckline like that, a necklace isn't necessary- while I agree this is sometimes true, I say, "Screw that," in this case. Product Review: Mi-Spa Monoi Gardenia Whipped Body Butter

Today, I am incredibly pleased to present Independent Luxe's first product review.

Up for review is Mi Spa's Monoi Gardenia Whipped Body Butter and Monoi Gardenia Total Body Oil Spray.

When shopping online for body products, I find it truly difficult to figure out what I'm going to like. Descriptions of feelings and textures, scents, and results are so objective that site descriptions can't always help you make a decision. That's one of the reasons I wanted to review bath and body products, as well as make-up, and things like candles. It's all about the experience- sometimes websites are accurate in their descriptions, sometimes they are so vague you don't even bother trying to find out more.
I look up reviews all the time when it comes to these things to help me come to a conclusion that makes sense for me.

So, I'll get to it.
I received my products from Mi Spa within two days of knowing I'd be receiving them for review. Mimie, the owner packages everything beautifully and even sent a personal note, which I truly appreciate.

I was so excited! I wanted to rip everything open and try it right away, but resisted to take photos of the products for this review. When I finally got that over with, I opened the Monoi Gardenia Whipped Body Butter and smiled. The scent was lovely, feminine, and floral- it was noticeable without being overbearing and I loved it.
When I unscrewed the top, I was really pleased with how thick the body butter was- I flipped the open jar upside down and nothing fell out. How cool is that?

I took a shower, and immediately afterward used the Monoi Gardenia Whipped Body Butter from Mi Spa.
I first noticed how nicely the heat from my hands melted the body butter into a slick fluid that was easy to put on. I was really surprised at how little of this stuff you have to use in order to cover your entire body. With an even application in a circular motion and a little bit of elbow grease to really get that beautiful butter into your skin, about a quarter size amount of the butter covers your entire shell. Wow. How much do we love that? For a mere $14, you get awesome body butter that smellls delicious, and feels like satin.

I found the that Monoi Gardenia Whipped Body Butter takes a little while to absorb, but it's definitely worth the wait. It's a treat, and would be a great thing to use daily or on those special days where you really want to pamper yourself.

I recommend using it in the shower, after you've rinsed off your body wash because the heat really helps spread this out, so you can get the most out of it. The Monoi Gardenia Body Oil Spray is also $14. I love both products from Mi Spa, my sking has been fantastically moisturized and my nose is happy, too!

I don't know why, but I am the having the hardest time find emerging shoe designers. If you know of any, other than Mohop, please email me and let me know!

I am also in search of emerging clothing designers. Preferably with their own website that you can purchase from. However, I am open-minded and will consider designers who sell on other websites and not their own. Oh, and I don't mean screenprinted tee's, I mean a line of clothing- dresses, pants, etc.

Handbag designers would be fabulous, as well- I am in search of leather handbags, specifically. I know a lot of fabric bag designers, but leather is not easy to come by.

Designers shouldn't be available in large chain stores like Neiman Marcus or Nordstrom, yet. Well, I suppose they could be, but the quantities they produce should be VERY limited and not available in EVERY store across the globe. Get what I'm saying?
Remember, IndependentLuxe wants emerging, not established-I'm making a ton of money-designers. My goal is to help make small designers like myself known and bring them sales & recognition!

Stunning Ceramics: Grace Sheese

A few days ago, I was incredibly pleased to stumble upon Grace Sheese's work. I was actually awestruck by the artists' work.
The rich colors and incredibly intricate details are eye-catching. Each bowl, vase, jar, and cup is a unique piece of art.
The cups start at a miniscule $45, bowls at $60, jars $110, and vases at $110. The highest price is under $500. Very reasonable for such enamoring work.

Cool Furniture: Plywood Office

Plywood Office is a fairly small company run by (as far as I can tell) designer Chris Jamison. Plywood Office specializes in modern, innovative furniture designed using plywood that doesn't look like plywood at all. The Stripe Series which happens to be my favorite, as of now, is now available in Bamboo, as well. I like that.
I am not sure of the prices or exactly where you can purchase this amazing looking furniture (grr), but it's definitely worth checking out.

This site met a few of my pet peeves, though. This is really unfortunate because I adore the furniture. I'm thinking this site is simply meant as a showcase for the designer's work. However, I'd like to know where I could purchase this furniture, if I chose to. Prices would be great, as well. I do imagine it's available in some stores. That is unclear on the site, there are two exhibitions listed in California, but that's it.
The site was a pain to navigate. The menu is on some of the pages, not all, so when I wanted to go back from one series to another, I had to use my "go back" arrows.
Things opening in new windows that are for the same site (i.e. the links aren't sending you elsewhere) shouldn't open in a new window. It's annoying. I also didn't like that my browser was unecessarily resized.

That said. The furniture is uniquely stunning. The clean lines and unusual materials deserve praise.

Take a good look at those. Aren't they phenomenal? I picked these because I adore the way the red pops from the white- I love the open flowers and laid back, elegant script with the simple and bold capitalized font. The packaging is also awesome. When I shop online, I can't feel fabrics, smell lotions, try things on, or test them out. I am prepared for that and accept it.
However- there is one thing that i just cannot stand when I am shopping online. And, this especially applies when I actually LOVE something, something that would actually work for me (as I am incredibly picky).

I know the designers know what they make their clothing and handbags from. I know they know what materials were used in their jewelry and shoes. I am absolutely positive that bath and body makers know what is used in their products.

So, on behalf of myself & fellow shoppers to designers and boutiques who are reading: why can't you tell me? If you don't, I'm not going to buy it. I'm not going to email you, I'm not going to waste my time. Please list your ingredients and materials, if you don't. I assure you, you'll get more sales and less questions.

Anthropologie strikes again in this outfit. Now, I know most people say don't put red with green. I disagree. As long as your not wearing sparkles and look shiny, you aren't going to look like a Christmas tree. Use together sparingly, in unique pieces and you're good to go. These shoes are very cool. The textured weaved leather is awesome! The pleated heel gives it a fun touch and the height of 1 inch is so wearable, it's not even funny! Available at Anthro for $118. Get them. I just discovered Anna Bella Baby's cards and stationery this weekend. All of their notecards and papers are really sweet, feminine, and tasteful. The color combinations and designs really stand out.

My favorites are above, the Baby's Breath and the Dandelion Flat Notes. You get a very decent amount for $12.95- 10 notes and 10 unique matching envelopes. I love the closures on those!

I have been familiar with the beautiful notecards designed and created by Blend Creations for a while now.

They are amazing. I love the bold colors against the brown paper bag colored card stock, and I love the vibrance of the other cards in the Blend Creations collection.
While I haven't tried them out (yet!), I can tell you that they are absolutely amazing looking and affordable.

So, you're going shopping and out to lunch with a couple of girl friends. You want to look cute, be comfortable, and look like it was effortless.

Tee: by Moral Fervor, available at Junk In Our Trunk for $72. The deep scoop neck is fab and the banded sleeves are a very nice departure from your typical tee. I adore the obscure print and especially dig that the fabric is unique, as it's made from corn!

Cropped Jeans: Love these. The slim leg is sleek and sophisticated, the dark wash is rich, and they are just sexy. Dress them up or down! Available at Girlshop.com for $152 by J Brand.

The bag. Oh, the bag. Look at this beautiful piece of work. Available in three colors, you have a lot of options to suit your tastes. The quality look phenomenal, too. I think the weaved strap is so fantastic, it makes it *that* much more appropriate for spring and summer, if you ask me. Though, it can and will work with all other seasons, too. This is the kind of bag you should buy! It's called Colleen and it's available at Rapp and Posavek. They know bags!

Jewelry. We all love jewelry, don't we? It can make the simplest outfit absolutely stunning. This branch necklaces by Twigs and Heather is gorgeous, handcrafted, and all of them are one of a kind. It will go with anything, too- but, I think it would work with this look especially well. Available at Twigs and Heather for a super affordable $125.

Cute shoes are another thing that can make a very simple (sometimes boring, sadly!) outfit turn into a unique site. Mohop creates incredible sandals -available in three heights- "made from recycled tires, a Finnish birch plywood core, and topped with various select veneers." How cool is that? Not only are they handcrafted, but they are recycled, as well. How amazing is that! I'm not going to go into all of the details here, but you can change the way the shoe looks a billion different ways. Go do yourself a favor and checkout Mohop shoes.
